In early 2012 we started a new experiment which has gone very well.

Indian school children have a vacation in January and the first week of February. We organized a month-long Work Scholarship program for thirteen school-going children. These children are from the area around SOJASI and need financial help for their books and school fees.

During their training the children got know-how about Square Metre Vegetable Gardening and Oyster Mushroom production. They also got a hot lunch every day (very important– this has been a cold winter) They also received English lessons (good English lessons are not available in most of their schools).

To wrap up the Work Scholarship program they put on a cultural show on February 10, followed by a celebratory meal.

You can read more about the Work Scholarship Program in our
Easter newsletter.
